The J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa is designed for individuals seeking to enter the United States through a Department of State-designated exchange visitor program. This visa facilitates practical training and educational experiences while enhancing international cooperation through the exchange of information.

Participants in the exchange visitor program can share knowledge and skills in specialized fields such as science, arts, and education. Eligible applicants include students, trainees, interns, teachers, professors, doctors, researchers, camp counselors, and government or international visitors.

Procedure for Obtaining an Exchange Visitor Visa:

  • Obtain the DS-2019 form from your sponsoring organization.
  • Complete the DS-160, the non-immigrant visa application form.
  • Pay the visa application fee.
  • Schedule an interview date through the U.S. embassy.
  • Attend the interview at the U.S. embassy, bringing your appointment confirmation, DS-160 confirmation page, passport photo, and passport.
