The UK government has decided to strengthen smoking regulations, including a ban on smoking outside schools, hospitals, and playgrounds. According to Reuters and other sources, the government has introduced a new "Tobacco and E-Cigarette Bill" to Parliament, which contains some of the strictest anti-smoking measures in the world. The bill includes provisions to prohibit the sale of cigarettes to individuals under the age of 15 and ban smoking in specific outdoor areas such as children's playgrounds, schools, and hospitals starting this year.
The legislation also includes a ban on e-cigarette advertising and sponsorship, as well as regulations to limit the flavors and packaging of e-cigarettes. Additionally, disposable e-cigarettes will be banned under separate legislation starting in June next year. However, the UK government has decided not to implement a smoking ban outside pubs and cafes, considering the potential impact on the service industry. Previously, the government had banned smoking in most enclosed public places, including pubs and offices, in 2007.
