A Delta Air Lines passenger aircraft that departed from Los Angeles was forced to return to the airport and make an emergency landing after smoke was detected on board, CNN reported on the 23rd local time. The aircraft, an Airbus A350-900, took off from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) shortly after 9 p.m. the previous day, bound for Sydney, Australia. However, approximately 30 minutes into the flight, it returned to LAX. Fortunately, the plane landed safely, and all 162 passengers disembarked without incident and were accommodated on alternative flights, Delta Air Lines stated in an official release.
Delta explained that the decision to return was made in accordance with established procedures after smoke was detected in the cabin, emphasizing that “nothing is more important than the safety of our passengers.” The exact cause of the smoke remains unknown. According to LiveATC.net, an online platform that shares air traffic control communications, there was no smoke in the cockpit at the time of landing. However, CNN reported that pilots cautioned passengers who may have been affected by the smoke.
