Professor Landon Song, Director of MIRI, recently traveled to the capital of Missouri alongside the President of Midwest University to meet with Representative Richard West and Senator Nick Schroer. Representative Richard West, formerly a Board Member of Midwest University, has now been appointed to the Board of Directors of the MIRI Foundation. Meanwhile, Senator Nick Schroer, who represents St. Charles County, has joined Midwest University as a new Board Member.

District 2: Parts of St. Charles County
Senator Nicholas Schroer, a Republican from St. Charles County, was elected in 2022 to represent Missouri’s 2nd Senatorial District. Prior to his tenure in the Senate, he served for six years as a representative for House District 107.
In addition to his legislative responsibilities, Senator Schroer is an attorney and currently serves as General Counsel at Venture Group Investments, Inc., based in St. Peters, MO. Before joining VGI, he practiced law in St. Charles County, specializing in family law and criminal defense. In 2014, he was recognized as a Top 40 Under 40 Family Law Attorney in Missouri.
A native of Ferguson, Missouri, Senator Schroer spent much of his childhood on his family farm in Fayette, MO. He graduated from Trinity Catholic High School in 2004, earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and obtained his Juris Doctor from the Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2013. While at SIU, he received several honors, including the Frank Bietto Memorial Scholarship, the Al H. and James A. Chesser Scholarship, and awards for excellence in health law legislation. He also served as president of the Law School Republicans and the Federalist Society.
Senator Schroer resides in St. Charles County with his wife, Kate, their two daughters, and three rescue dogs. In his free time, he enjoys spending time on the family farm, hunting, fishing, and playing guitar.
Representative Richard West
District 102: St. Charles and Warren Counties
Representative Richard West, a Republican, serves Missouri’s 102nd House District, representing parts of St. Charles and Warren Counties. First elected in November 2020, he has been a dedicated public servant and is also the longstanding mayor of New Melle, Missouri, currently serving his fourth term.
In addition to his legislative service, Representative West is a small business owner and a retired law enforcement officer. Over the course of his 21-year career in law enforcement, he served as a criminal investigator and also worked internationally, spending 28 months in Iraq as a police advisor.
A native of St. Louis, Representative West graduated from Bishop DuBourg High School in 1985 and attended Western International University. He currently resides in New Melle with his wife of 30 years, Lori. They have three children: Anthony, Megan, and Tyler.
